Asian Awareness Week

Why Asian Awareness Week?

Asian Awareness Month as designated by the United States government is May. At Stony Brook, because May is considered the end of the semester, Asian Awareness Month is celebrated in April. During this time, many clubs hold their biggest event of the year (CASB's China Night, KSA's K-Nite, PUSO Fest, etc.). Thus comes Asian Awareness Week.

Situated around the same time as the Lunar New Year, it is the most convenient time to explore Asian and Asian American culture. Clubs and organizations are able to get together to celebrate the new year and let students enjoy the festivities.

It is a time where clubs and organizations can work as one. They plan events together to maximize the possibilities. They work together to create the Cultural Ball where students can show off their ethnic fashions and explore foods of other cultures. It is a time to celebrate, to remember our Asian heritage and to explore our Asian American identities.
